Careers Clubs

Our Careers Clubs can help you to learn the skills you need to get into work, whether you are looking to get your first job, move to a new role, return to work after a long time or get back into work after a redundancy, we can give you tailored support to get the job you want. We can help with CV writing, applications and interview skills as well as finding opportunities to begin with.

Our Careers Clubs run in person:

Hampton Library, Clayburn Road, second Monday of every month, 2.30pm - 4.30pm

Orton Library, Bushfield, every Tuesday, 9.30am –11.30am

Westwood Community Hub, every Thursday, 10.00am –12.00pm

Ad-hoc one to one meetings to discuss career plans and get support to achieve them can also be arranged at Customer Central in Bridge Street, Peterborough. Please contact us to arrange a time.

Free computer courses

Join us, Peterborough College and Jobsmart and improve you computer skills.

Basic ICT classes

Topics to be covered are:

  • Searching the internet
  • Bookmarking pages
  • Creating folders and moving items into the folder
  • Downloading, saving and inserting pictures into documents
  • Editing and formatting google docs
  • Using google chat, google space and google keep#
  • Composing and sending professional looking emails
  • Replying to emails that have been sent to you
  • Downloading and saving attachments
  • Attaching files and sending them via email
  • Creating and formatting a simple word doc
  • Inserting and formatting pictures into documents
  • Saving and sending documents, finding them after you have saved them!
  • Creating a basic spreadsheet
  • Using formulas to perform basic calculations in a spreadsheet
  • Creating and editing charts and graphs in spreadsheets

These sessions are perfect for anyone who has very little knowledge of computers and the internet.

Classes will run every Friday, 9.45 to 11.45, from 10 May at our Westwood Community Hub.

Higher Level ICT classes

These classes assume you have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and have used them within a workplace setting. If you do not have this them you will need to start with the basic ICT class.

Topics to be covered are:

Word

  • Using the find and replace tool
  • Using cut/copy/paste
  • Inserting and resizing pictures including altering the aspect ratio
  • Using formatting tools including sub/super script, case, copyright and wingding symbols
  • Using align text, tabs, indents, bullet points, line spacing, borders and automatic hyphenation
  • Using mail merge to create letters and labels
  • Using advanced table options in Word including merging and splitting cells
  • Inserting cover pages, using themes and heading styles, altering margins, adding columns and creating hyperlinks
  • Moving pictures, text wrapping, grouping pictures, adding and altering text boxes, rotating text, headers and footers

Excel

  • Renaming and inserting/deleting sheets, resizing columns
  • Formatting cells using number, date and currency
  • Adding shading and borders
  • Using AutoSum, min, max, average functions
  • Inserting, formatting and adding details to charts
  • Inserting basic filters and using them to calculate information
  • Embedding formatting options, page layout, headers and footers

Classes will run every Friday, 12.15 to 2pm,  from 10 May at our Westwood Community Hub.

Learn My Way

Are you looking for help to get online? We offer a fully supported ‘get started online’ course,where we will help you to take your first steps into the world wide web, with confidence. We have tutors to assist you right the way through the programme.

Experience Life as a Park Ranger

Join with us, Nene Park Trust and Froglife for a once in a lifetime work experience opportunity as a Park ranger and Reserve Warden. Over a total of nine weeks you'll get to experience all the day to day activities carried out by the Wardens and Rangers at Nene Park and Froglife's Nature Reserves, which you can put on your CV.

This programme is only open to those aged between 18 and 24 years not currently in education, employment or training. 

The programme start on Tuesday 27 February and runs every Tuesday for nine weeks, 1pm to 3.30pm. 

Travel will be provided to and from each site.

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

We are partnering with WEA to offer free English classes to speakers of other languages.

You will need to have an assessment before joining the course. Come along on the 18 January between 10am and 4pm to complete the assessment ans enrol on the course. 

The classes will run every Tuesday morning and Wednesday afternoon at our Westwood Hub.

Free support with English and Maths

Having a good standard or maths and English can help you in many ways. It will improve your chances of succeeding at work or in training, as well as giving your confidence a boost. We are offering free access to the BKSB portal so that you can learn, improve and gain a nationally recognised qualification in Functional Skills English and Maths. 

Sessions run every Wednesday, 10am to 12pm at our Westwood Hub

Employment support for parents

If you are a parent and looking to return to work or upskill, we can help you. Our sessions will give you everything you need to find and apply for work and succeed in interviews.

We’ll also help you to:

  • Build your confidence.
  • Look at options for childcare.
  • Find roles that fit around your family.
  • You can even bring your child to the sessions.
