Cross Keys Homes launches ‘Working 4 U’

January 14, 2010

THE city’s largest housing association is launching a £63,000 campaign aimed at providing unemployed people with free advice, information and career guidance to help them gain new employment skills.

The project is provided by Cross Keys Homes and funded by the East of England Development Agency to tackle unemployment in three of Peterborough’s highest unemployment areas. The housing association has partnered with Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service, Job Centre Plus, Business Link, Peterborough City Council, Peterborough College of Adult Education and Next Step to deliver these valuable sessions.

The main launch event on Thursday (January 21) at the Working 4 U head quarters in Hampton Court, Westwood will be attended by the Peterborough MP Stewart Jackson. Residents are invited to take part in taster sessions as well as find out what sessions will entail and sign up to them.

Business Link is offering the chance for budding entrepreneurs to pitch their ideas to a panel of key city business people akin to the BBC’s Dragons’ Den programme. Successful candidates will not only receive support for their ideas but will also receive a prize.

Cross Keys Homes’ community programme manager, Ruth Mingay, said: “The aim of these sessions is to help improve employability and increase people’s opportunities in finding a job locally.”

Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service’s Working 4 U co-ordinator, David Thomas, said “We are hoping that many people will turn up to these free drop-in sessions to learn news skills such as writing a successful CV and interview techniques, as well as guidance on their career opportunities.”
