Promoting independent living
May 28, 2010
PETERBOROUGH’S largest landlord will be hosting an independent living event being held in Queensgate.
Cross Keys Homes will be providing advice, information and guidance on independent living and sheltered housing along with Minster Housing and Accent Nene.
The housing associations will be outside John Lewis from Monday, June 7 to Saturday, June 12 to raise awareness of what sheltered housing is, with an emphasis on independent living. They will provide information and advice on how to apply, the role of housing options, where the schemes are and what they can offer.
Current sheltered housing tenants will be dropping by to offer their first hand experience of living in sheltered accommodation.
Staff will also be providing information about Cross Keys Homes’ Lifeline which is a personal alarm service designed to provide reassurance at the touch of a button.
Cross Keys Homes’ director of operations, Claire Higgins, said: “I would urge anybody thinking about sheltered housing, or Lifeline, to go along to find out more about the services housing associations can provide for older people.
Claire added: “Older people want to retain their independence for as long as they can and now that we are all living longer, people want to retain their independence but still feel safe and able to summon help if they need it. Our sheltered schemes and Lifeline service have a real capacity to help people do just that.”
