St. Mary's Court refurbishments unveiled

December 4, 2009

RESIDENTS of a city centre community have celebrated the completion of refurbishment works totalling £1.3m which were undertaken by Peterborough’s largest landlord Cross Keys Homes.

The external refurbishment of the low-rise blocks at St Mary’s Court, St John’s Street, was undertaken by affordable housing specialist Lovell and was officially unveiled by Cross Keys Homes’ chair Angus Kennedy and MP Stewart Jackson.

The works included external insulation and cream-coloured render to all the blocks to help reduce heatloss and energy consumption. The St John’s Street car park was also improved with the installation of a security gate and fences along with block paving and defined car parking spaces.

The residents, who were all fully consulted on the improvements including three representatives sitting on the panel which selected the contractor Lovell, have all benefited from a newly designed courtyard and increased CCTV coverage within the community.

Chair Angus Kennedy, said: “I was delighted to be a part of the official unveiling of the completed refurbishment work. Lovell has done the residents and Cross Keys Homes proud and I’m sure the residents will benefit from these great improvements for a long time to come.”

MP Stewart Jackson, said: “It is my privilege to represent a city where the largest housing association is so dedicated to improving the quality of life for its residents. The unveiling of the improvement works was a great opportunity for Cross Keys Homes and Lovell to take pride in the work they have done at St Mary’s Court. My congratulations to everybody who played part in the improvements, it really is breathtaking.”

In addition the blocks’ TV and satellite aerial system was upgraded so all residents can now access digital and Sky TV if they choose.

Lovell regional director, Simon Medler, said: “It’s been extremely rewarding for Lovell to use its expertise in housing modernisation to help transform St Mary’s Court. The success of the scheme was very much as a result of the close partnership between our team, the residents and Cross Keys Homes.”

Cross Keys Homes’ director of operations, Claire Higgins, said: “The residents are delighted with the completed work. The work will not only improve the overall appearance of the scheme but will help to reduce household energy consumption for the residents which has to be good thing for them and the environment. The courtyard is an added attraction which will bring much pleasure to the residents especially during the warmer months. Lovell is to be commended on its work and we thank residents for their help and cooperation throughout the improvements.”
