CKH shortlisted in prestigious national awards

The new look flats at Redpoll Place

Our innovative regeneration project at Redpoll Place has been shortlisted for a second prestigious national housing award.

Following hot on the heels of recognition in the 24 Housing Awards, our work in Bretton’s Redpoll Place has also been shortlisted for the Best Regeneration award in the Inside Housing Development Awards.

The work we have done at Redpoll Place, has not only given the area a new look and improved security, but also enabled us to provide additional, supported, short stay accommodation for the homeless within the flats.

We have invested £350,000 in the area, and have also received a financial contribution from Peterborough City Council to support the work. The project has involved improving lighting and CCTV around the area and remodelling the area in front of the flats, giving clearer access to the housing and community areas, and providing the community with a modern and safe public space.

Externally, the building has been re-clad, whilst inside the communal areas and corridors have been redesigned to give a fresh and welcoming feel. New offices provide a base for the newly appointed full time manager, who is able to give residents easy access to housing advice as well as signposting to other relevant agencies.  The manager will also be able to control access to the building, whilst night time patrols are increasing the security of the area further still.

In addition to regenerating the area, we are working with Peterborough City Council to provide much needed short stay accommodation alongside the current residents, as part of our wider partnership working to reduce homelessness in the city.

Our Chief Executive, Claire Higgins, said: “Our regeneration work at Redpoll Place has transformed the area and with it, the lives of the people who live there. The fact that in doing this work, we have also been able to increase the amount of short stay accommodation within the city is another example of our innovative approach to tackling the challenges we face, particularly the housing crisis gripping the country.

“Recognition in awards such as this highlight that we are really getting it right in our approach to housing, regeneration and community investment.”

The Inside Housing Development Awards are run by the national trade sector magazine of the same name, and recognise the very best residential developments across the UK. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in November.
