“I believe that this was the right choice to benefit my future career”
I chose to do an apprenticeship because the opportunity came up whilst I was already working at CKH. As after finishing my A Levels, University was never on the cards for me as I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study. I’d been here for over a year after first joining as an Income Management Pre-Apprentice and this really helped me get my foot in to door and work out what I was really interested in. I think apprenticeships are the better option anyway as you can earn money whilst being taught the relevant skills for the role and you’re faced with real life situations – instead of learning everything theoretically from lectures and text books.
I’m currently a Neighbourhood Manager Apprentice with the hope of becoming a Neighbourhood Manager here at CKH once completing my NVQ. Since starting my apprenticeship, I have been able to shadow Neighbourhood Managers and get a real feel for the job and come face-to-face with the challenges that they deal with. Currently I am working on administration, such as dealing with mutual exchange applications, booking affordable tenancy reviews and helping Neighbourhood Managers with their day to day tasks. It was never my plan to become a housing officer, however over my time as a pre apprentice I become more and more interested in this job position.
It’s only been four months since I started this apprenticeship but I am really enjoying it and I believe that this was the right choice to make to benefit my future career. CKH is very supportive of my learning and development and always provide me with various training opportunities. Sometimes it can get quite hard to balance working with college studies however I always receive very good support from my manager and the team to help me through.
