“I wish I could go back and tell myself when I was dropping out of Uni that I would be in the position that I am today.”
Before starting this Apprenticeship I was lost on what career path I wanted to take. Last summer I had dropped out of University, where I was studying a degree in sport, as I couldn’t picture doing it for the rest of my life. Dropping out was one of the hardest decision I had to make but it’s one I definitely do not regret one bit. I think there is a lot of pressure to choose University and not enough emphasis that there are other options such as Apprenticeships out there.
Applying for an apprenticeship was never my initial plan, I was just looking for a job whilst I figured out the next step in my career. However, I stumbled across this apprenticeship and knew that it was an opportunity that came just at the right time that I could not pass up. This role allows me to gain a qualification whilst also getting work experience to add to my CV and being paid at the same time.
Working in marketing means there are never two days a like, it’s a busy environment but that just means there is always something interesting going on. Day to day I monitor and produce content for CKH’s social media platforms as well as writing articles for newsletters and the website. Splitting my time between work and college was difficult in the beginning but now I am just over 4 months in and it has become a lot easier. This is mainly due to the team that I work with, they are always there for me if I need help and I feel confident that they are always rooting for me to achieve my NVQ. I wish I could go back and tell myself when I was dropping out of Uni that I would be in the position that I am today.
After completing my apprenticeship I’d love to be offered a permanent position within the Marketing team at CKH. I have learnt so much, not only about the job role but about myself whilst working here. However, I am confident if the opportunity presents elsewhere that I have been prepared with the experience and knowledge I need to succeed in another business.
