We are very pleased to announce we have been awarded £8,440 funding from Sport England to provide health and fitness courses in Westwood.
The activities will start in April and be available to all ages and abilities. Sports will include street dancing, chair yoga, boxing fitness, basketball and walking football. Sessions will be run at a number of venues in the area, right on people’s doorsteps – so there will be no excuse for not joining in the fun and getting active!
Younger people will enjoy the street dancing and boxing fitness elements, while those looking to take things a little bit slower can get involved in walking football and yoga, which will include chair yoga, for those with restricted mobility. Basketball is always a popular choice with all ages.
“Sport is such a fantastic way to build communities, as well as improve the mental and physical health of those who join in,” says our Chief Executive, Claire Higgins. “This funding will kick start an amazing programme of inclusive sports, supporting the healthy eating and other community activities currently being delivered by the WestRaven Community project in Westwood and Ravensthorpe.”
This funding follows the recent awarding of over £22,000 to us from WREN to refurbish the basketball courts in Westwood, providing the perfect venue for a number of the activities.
