Peterborough’s largest housing association has joined forces with public service provider Reed in Partnership to deliver the European Social Funds’ Families Programme in Peterborough.

Cross Keys Homes won the contract to deliver the programme for the city which launched this week and will run until November 2014.

The Families Programme has been designed to support local people living in families where no one is working or where there is a history of worklessness and forms part of a £200 million central government initiative to support thousands of families to change their lives for the better.

Cross Keys Homes utilising its award winning ‘Working 4U’ programme will support families through the programme to help them to break the cycle of disadvantage caused by challenges such as crime, alcohol/drug use, debt, incomplete education and a lack of employment history.

Working closely with the Connecting Families programme, advisers will help participants to find work, manage relationship difficulties, access affordable childcare, and improve their parenting skills and money management - all in all a holistic approach to addressing the root causes of their problems.

Cross Keys Homes’ director of operations, Claire Higgins, said: “We are delighted to have won this contract and to be able to provide the much needed help and support to local families and so enable them to feel more confident about entering the world of work.

"This programme can only improve the lives of those participating and their families and that’s great news for them and for the city as a whole.“

Martin Fallon, Operations Director at Reed in Partnership, said: “The Families Programme is designed to give people the support they need to improve their lives – in whichever way suits them best.”

“It is not all about finding work. Those on The Families Programme can receive help to tackle a number of issues such as poor health, housing, debt and childcare.”

The programme is funded using money from the European Social Fund.
