A new community café will open its doors in Westwood to serve the local community thanks to WestRaven Big Local, on Easter Monday 17 April 2017.
WestRavens Community Café is part of a major community investment project led by WestRaven Big Local, a local community led organisation that represents the residents of Westwood and Ravensthorpe, which has received a £1 million grant from the Big Lottery Fund to help make improvements in the Ravensthorpe ward.
WestRaven Big Local consult with residents in the area, to decide where the Big Local grant will be spent, and then work in partnership with local organisations to deliver lasting community improvements. We are the locally trusted organisation for the project who support the WRBL in the delivery of these fantastic projects.
The community café will form one of the largest investment projects made by WestRaven Big Local to date, following a £200,000 investment, and will serve affordable food and drinks, as well as include a designated youth space with recording equipment, a wheelchair friendly training kitchen, and a community space offering a range of activities and workshops for the whole community.
Speaking about the café, Kevin Earl, Community Café Manager said “We have worked closely with local residents from both Westwood and Ravensthorpe to provide something that will make a positive and lasting impact for everyone in the local community. The café will not only serve fresh food, but it will have a strong social responsibility where the community will be able to learn new skills, and meet new people.”
Steve Dumbrell, our Residents and Community Investment Service Manager added: “The community café will be a real asset to the local community, and we are proud to be supporting WestRaven Big Local to provide something that will make a lasting and positive difference to the area.
“We are committed to making our neighbourhoods vibrant places to live, and just one of the ways we successfully do this is through our community facilities. WestRavens café will give something back to the community it serves by offering the chance for people to socialise and to learn new skills, as well as get a locally sourced nutritious meal. The project has been supported by passionate local people and organisations, and it has been a real pleasure to see the project grow from the wishes of local people into a finished project.”
In celebration of the new café launch, a community fun day will take place in Hampton Court, Westwood, from 12pm to 4pm on Easter Monday 2017, where they’ll be serving afternoon tea, various stalls, an Easter egg hunt for children, craft activities and live music throughout.
