THREE pre-Apprentices have attended their first awards dinner as a reward for their hard work and dedication to Peterborough’s largest housing association.
Dean Hindley (19), Macauley Jenner (17) and Chris Blunt (19) started working at Cross Keys Homes thanks to the housing association’s Moving 4ward initiative, which works with young people who are under 19 and previously classed as NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training).
As a direct result of their enthusiasm and commitment, Cross Keys Homes invited them to attend the 24 Housing Awards dinner in Birmingham as some of the organisation’s representatives where they were nominated for the ‘Customer Service Provider of the Year’ award.
Dean who only started working at Cross Keys Homes a few months ago as a pre-Apprentice Estate Ranger, said: “I had such a wonderful night and was delighted to be asked to attend. I have never been to anything like this before; it was fantastic and I really enjoyed mixing and socialising with my colleagues.”
Chris who works in Supported Housing, added: “I enjoyed the night as it was something really different. I felt very smart in my dinner jacket and the meal was delicious. I would definitely love to go to an event like this again should the opportunity arise.”
Cross Keys Homes’ Moving 4ward initiative helps to give young people the support and skills required to move forward with their lives. Now on its third placement group, Cross Keys Homes has already helped 19 young people get back into employment, education or training - an 86% success rate.
Cross Keys Homes’ Director of Operations, Claire Higgins, said: “Our Moving 4ward initiative has shown many times that it really does help to make a positive difference to young people. It provides them with six-months paid hands-on experience and training, enabling them to improve their prospects, become work ready and most importantly move forward positively with their lives.
“We are delighted that Dean, Macauley and Chris had a really great time on the night. It was great to have them on our table - they really livened it up for us all.”
