Our Community team work very hard to make sure that anybody can move forward with their lives no matter the obstacles in their path. So a huge congratulations goes to Paul, Lynne and Jayne who have beat the barriers.
Paul is a determined tenant and began coming to our Westwood Community Hub every Thursday to get involved in our Learn My Way computer course and earned all his certificates in under four weeks. What makes Paul’s story special is that he has health issues and has suffered three close family bereavements within the last 18 months. Despite all of this, Paul has motivated himself to leave the house and do something positive with his time which has helped him to keep moving forward with his life.
Lynne is another confident tenant who’s confidence was knocked when she started suffering long-term health issues. But with our help she engaged with our ESF programme and completed a confidence building and health and social care course, which has helped her secure employment and really boost her confidence!
Jayne after leaving school at 16 had little training or work experiance to speak of. She came to us last year and at age 60 she has gained a Food Hygiene Certificate and earned her 1st IT Certificate. Her advice would be:
“Give it a go if you want to learn more about using the internet. If I can do it then anyone can do it”.
It’s great to see our tenants beating the odds and getting involved. We are really proud of all these achievements is a fantastic inspiration to other people of what can be done.
Our Learn My Way course is a great way to improve confidence, if you or somebody you know would benefit come along on a Thursday at the Westwood Community Hub to get FREE IT support. This is the place to take your first steps online. You can find out all about the mouse, the keyboard, the internet and get ready to chat to friends with your own email account.
