Our first scheme in Central Bedfordshire is helping to provide 52 new affordable homes to help ease the council’s housing waiting list.
The development site in Potton is already 10 months through and has helped to provide 12 new affordable homes to date in its first phase of works.
The 52 affordable homes are part of a 151-unit scheme being provided by Kier Living Eastern, and satisfy the section 106 affordable housing planning obligation for the scheme. The homes will form part of our joint venture agreement with Kier Living Eastern, the residential division of Kier Group plc, and is the first joint scheme which provides affordable homes as well as outright sale properties.
To date, nine affordable rented one-bedroom apartments have been provided, of which three have been designed in conjunction with Central Bedfordshire Council’s Occupational Therapy team to suit those with additional mobility issues. There are also three shared ownership homes, helping those who want to benefit from the security of owning their own home in stages.
The second phase of 31 affordable homes is expected to be handed over in 2018/2019, with a further phase of nine flats scheduled for completion in 2020, marking the completion of the site.
Our Chief Executive, Claire Higgins, said: “We are committed to investing in Bedfordshire providing much needed affordable homes to help those who are being priced out of the housing market in the area.
“Thanks to our joint venture with Kier Living we are able to increase the supply of housing in general, and for us, affordable homes in particular. Kier is a great business to work with and I look forward to continuing to work alongside them as we continue with this development and through the other sites identified as part of our innovative joint venture.”
Nick Moore, Managing Director of Kier Living Eastern, added: “We are delighted to be working with Cross Keys Homes as we create Tall Trees, our outstanding new housing development in Potton, which will provide over 100 open market homes alongside much needed affordable housing.
“At Kier Living Eastern, we have more than 70 years’ experience of building new homes and we are renowned for our quality, attention to detail and forward-thinking approach.
“This exciting joint venture is the latest example of Kier Living Eastern’s innovative approach and I am sure it will prove to be an exemplar of what can be achieved.”
Central Bedfordshire Council Executive Member for Regeneration, Cllr Nigel Young, said: “These 12 new homes in Potton highlight our commitment to providing affordable homes that not only meet the needs of our residents but, importantly, also cater for all needs.”
