Good news from our retirement housing communities

Our retirement housing communities don’t just provide a safe place to live. They are supportive, social communities that enable older people to live the lives they want to with the help in place to support them as they need.

Here are some examples of ways we have supported our residents, sometimes in unexpected ways.

Support with hoarding

Our Scheme Manager has been supporting a resident with hoarding and cleaning issues, enlisting the support of mental health services and our Community Care team along the way. We have supported the resident at their own pace, clearing the clutter in bite size chunks and persevering with Care support to keep on top of cleaning. The resident is now engaging in the social side of the community and feeling much better about their life. We’ll continue the support they need as long as they need it.

Support with mental health

After a resident opened up about their low mood and previous trauma, our Scheme Manager was able to help them to access talking therapies and counselling. The resident had wanted therapy for a long time, but didn’t know where to start. With our support the resident is now accessing the therapy they need and feel confident enough to travel to into town by bus – something they have not been able to do for a long time. They feel very proud of themselves!

Support with loneliness

We recently supported a resident who was feeling isolated and lacked the confidence to join the social activities that take place in their community. By working with other residents the Scheme Manager was able to encourage the resident to attend a small event where they were welcomed by others. They now feel more comfortable in attending events and are starting to benefit from the welcoming community they living, helping to alleviate their isolation.

Support with financial issues

We supported a resident who experienced a water leak to get a refund from Anglian Water for the water they lost. In the process of communicating with the water company we were also able reduce the resident’s direct debit and add them to the priority first list so they will also be notified of any future leaks identified by Anglian Water.

As you can see, we support our residents in a wide range of ways, every single day. If you would like to find out if living in one of our retirement communities could be a solution for you or a loved one, do get in touch with us to find out more.
