Our 2025 Resident Award winners

Thank you to everyone who nominated a fantastic neighbour, friend of family member for one of our awards this year. We received so many wonderful stories about how people make a difference. This year, your engaged residents formed the judging panel and selected our winners and runners up. We shared the nominations anonymously so their nominations could speak for themselves.

And the winners are…

Community champion of the year

George is our community champion of the year. George played an essential role in repainting the hall at our South Bretton Family and Community Centre. He was committed to getting it done in time for the children to enjoy after the school holidays. As a member of the Men Together Group, he finds old furniture that the group can restore and donate to the homeless families living in CKH short stay accommodation.

Runner up: Wayne volunteers at the Community Garden. He was nominated for his passion and eagerness to share his knowledge. He was nominated because his interest inspires others to get involved and have a go themselves.

Runner up: David was struggling to find work when he became a CKH volunteer. He has rebuilt his confidence and gained valuable work experience. He is always willing to help anyone and goes above and beyond to support people in the local community.

Personal achiever of the year 

Phillip is our personal achiever of the year.  He worked incredibly hard to improve the condition of this home. Phillip suffers with poor mental health but was determined to complete the tasks we set to help improve his home and quality of life. Monthly visits from our team helped him stay on track but he did the work and completed it all within just a few months!

Runner up: Trevor decided to promote activities to help bring people together at his retirement living scheme. He always tries to make new neighbours feel welcome and motivate as many people as possible to join in. This year, he has taught himself how to create eye-catching posters online.

Runner up: Shaun had a challenging year, starting again in a new home as a single parent. He completed a parenting programme and has been asked to return to talk to other new parents. He joined one of our resident engagement panels to help grow his confidence and has completed several training programmes and certifications. 

Young achiever of the year

Esmai is our young achiever of the year. Esmai is a kind, compassionate and caring older sibling.  She goes above and beyond for her 5 year old sister who has Autism Spectrum Disorder. She helps with bath time, getting dressed and bedtime. Her relationship with her sister is lovely to see and a complete credit to her. 

Runner up: Bailey is a young boy who consistently helps his mum. As a single parent, she really appreciates his help and how caring and loving he is, something his teachers comment on too. Bailey also does karate and is one the youngest in the group but has the highest belt and is working towards a black belt.

Runner up: Chelsea is a dedicated daughter, at 17 years old she looks after her mum who can experience mental health crisis's. Even though she has her own health concerns, she always takes the time to help her mum while also attending college.

Good neighbour

Halgurd is our good neighbour. Halgurd is a good neighbour to everyone, he buys people food whenever he goes shopping. He also cleans the communal bins, making the waste goes into the right bins. His neighbours say: “Anything you need in this flat you know to go to him because he will help every time.”

Runner up: Laura lost her partner and had to adjust to life as a single mum. She's incredibly busy bringing up two boys on her own but would still do anything for anyone. She helps her friends by having their kids over, providing hot meals and taking them out when needed. 

Runner up: Kerry has become friends with her neighbours. She checks on an elderly neighbour and takes her on trips out. She also helps another neighbour when they are unwell, puts the bins out, even walking the dog.

Good neighbour from an extra care or retirement housing community

Debbie is our good neighbour from an extra care or retirement housing community. Debbie runs fun activities, making sure that everyone can participate regardless of ability. She brings together residents to make new friends. Debbie is also a keen gardener and tidies up her neighbours' patio areas and hedges. An honourable mention goes to Toby, her lovely dog, who enjoys the afternoon tea club where he has his own special mug.

Runner up: Veronica and Caroline are neighbours who have both had a tough year, dealing with grief and health problems. However, it has not stopped either of them from keeping the social calendar full. From hosting birthday parties to becoming the new Chairman of the Social Club, these ladies are at the centre of making their scheme welcoming and inclusive.

Runner up: Archie has been called 'a star' and is well known for his cheerful, positive attitude. He takes care of the communal gardens which he has totally transformed and now looks amazing. He's spent hours digging, potting and watering the plants.

CKH team member of the year

Shane is our CKH team member of the year. As a Neighbourhood Manager, Shane was nominated because his commitment to ensuring everything runs smoothly has not gone unnoticed. His positive attitude is truly inspiring and he is always prompt to addresses concerns and action them.
