Medesham Homes development named after local woman

A new housing development in Stanground has been named in memory of the stable owner who devoted her life to teaching children how to ride horses.

Peggy Fishpool used to run the stables on the land which has now been developed to provide 24 two and three-bedroom affordable homes and 6 one-bedroom apartments.

In honour of all the work and commitment Peggy Fishpool did to support her local community, Medesham Homes board members, local ward councillors and members of Peggy’s family and friends alongside special guest Dolly - the 12 year old pony who was the last pony to be housed in the former stables - revealed the new street name for the site, Fishpool Drive.

Medesham Homes’ board member and CEO of Cross Keys Homes, Claire Higgins, said: “After hearing about all of the wonderful work Peggy did to help support her local community, this was the least we could do to honour her memory. We are committed to building affordable homes and these new homes on Fishpool Drive will help many families have a home they can truly afford and thrive in.”

This is the second development to be completed by Medesham Homes, the Joint Venture partnership between equal partners Peterborough City Council and Cross Keys Homes.

Nigel Fishpool, son of Peggy Fishpool, added: “It was wonderful to see so many friends and family of my mother come together to mark this special occasion and see this new development named after her. I know she’ll be looking down and so happy to see that this land is being used to help even more people by providing affordable homes, just like she was so committed to do with the horse riding school she ran for the local community for many, many years.”

These new homes have been built by Countryside Properties with the site due to be completed in the next few weeks.
