Volunteer with CKH and make a difference!
At CKH we believe in the power of volunteering. Becoming a volunteer and helping out in your community can be an amazing and life changing experience, and volunteering with CKH means you’ll be completely supported throughout your volunteer journey.
The reasons people volunteer are many. For some it’s a social experience and for others it’s a stepping stone into paid work. Here are some reasons to get involved. Maybe you identify with some of them?
- make a difference to the lives of others
- help the environment
- help to build community spirit
- feel valued and part of a team
- spend quality time away from work or a busy lifestyle
- gain confidence and self-esteem.
If you’re looking for work, volunteering can be a great first step. You’ll
- gaining new skills, knowledge and experience
- developing existing skills and knowledge
- learn teamwork
- be able to demonstrate to an employer your commitment
- gain a reference
Or you might just want to use volunteering as a way to meet new people and make new friends. Through volunteering with CKH you’ll become part of a supportive team.
Whatever you want to get out of becoming a volunteer, we can help you to make it happen!
Current volunteering roles available:
Volunteer Gardeners: We’re looking for volunteer gardeners to help some of our residents across Peterborough whose gardens have got a bit too much for them. You’ll help them out with a bit of mowing, pruning and weeding to get their gardens into a manageable condition. We’ll provide all the tools and safety gear, you just need to wear appropriate clothing.
Volunteer delivery drivers: You will be a link between CKH, foodbanks and our residents, getting deliveries of food, provisions and medicines to the people who need it. You’ll need a standard UK driving licence, and your own MOT’d and insured vehicle, and we’ll cover your mileage costs. You’ll need to be friendly, patient and positive, as well as able to perform physical tasks including lifting and loading shopping.
Volunteer Gardener at our South Bretton Family and Community Centre: If you're a keen gardener with a spare hour a week then we need you! We are looking for a volunteer gardener to help keep the brilliant garden at our South Bretton Family Community Centre looking amazing for the families, young people and community group who use the Centre.
Litter picking: Litter picking is a great way to get out of the house, get some fresh air and exercise, and meet new people – as well as making a difference to your community. We are holding weekly litter picks every Friday:
- Westwood: meet at 11am outside the Westwood Community Hub, Hampton Court.
- Welland: meet at 1pm outside the CKH Health and Wellbeing Hub in Scalford Drive.
