We've welcomed new apprentices
We have welcomed a record ten apprentices to our workforce this month.
The apprentices, who are a mix of school leavers and graduates, will work across the business to gain a breadth of experience in all areas of the work of the organisation including housing and tenancy management and resident support. In addition to their work experience, they will also study for the level three qualification in Housing Management from the Chartered Institute of Housing.
We are a leading organisation in the region for supporting people back into work. Through our Careers Clubs and partnership working to build jobseekers' skills, our support helped almost 90 previously unemployed people into work in the last financial year.
Thanks to funding from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) Youth Guarantee Trailblazer initiative, we have been able to expand our careers support focusing on young people and helping even more of them access training and employment opportunities. This has included running our recent Youth Employment Conference and planning a youth focused careers fair in the new year. We are also running a programme of courses targeted specifically at young people giving them the skills and confidence they need to succeed in a competitive jobs market.
Our Chief Executive, Claire Higgins, said: “I am thrilled to be welcoming our new apprentices and to watch them as they grow and flourish with us. I know the whole team at CKH are keen to share their passion and experience of housing with these young people and to set them on a great path towards a rewarding career.
“This apprenticeship programme is a practical extension of the support we already offer to young people as part of our community investment work, and a continuation of our long standing commitment to proving apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships. I am a firm believer in practicing what we preach when it comes to supporting people back into work or young people into work for the first time, and I really hope other businesses will follow. It is incredibly impactful to see how the individuals develop throughout their apprenticeships and we have a number of longstanding members of the team who started as apprentices or pre-apprentices with us, in some cases many years ago. They are now mentoring these new recruits which is fantastic!”
