Becketts Close to become art gallery for the day
Talented artist and resident of Becketts Close retirement housing community, is putting on an exhibition and art sale this March.
Mr Chris Stratton has been painting for 15 years, ever since he moved into his flat at Becketts Close. Chris has always had a love of art, and was a keen visitor to art galleries and reader of books on his favourite artists. Once retired, he found he had the time to actually create the art he wanted, and there has been no stopping him!
Chris describes his painting technique as 'spontaneous'. He starts with a blank canvas, sets some colours up and then just lets the image come out of the canvas. He has images in his head and just conveys that onto his work. He never follows photos or drawings of anything, it's all in his head and whatever he feels like doing at the time.
Chris has had a varied career, and many of his jobs lent into his artistic side, including, theatre set design for shows and musicals and his work as a colour printer with a photography studio, where he worked in the dark room. He has also worked in youth support and social services.
Chris will be exhibiting his work on Thursday 19 March between 10.00am and 4.00pm at the Becketts Close Community Centre, New England, Peterborough PE1 3JL.
Chris' paintings will also be up for sale and he will be donating half the money he makes to charity and then the rest will go towards more art equipment to continue painting.
Here's a selection of Chris' painings to whet you appetite...
