Litter picking hub
We have teamed up with Peterborough Litter Wombles to launch the city's first litter picking hub. Call into our Westwood Community Hub to borrow all the pickers and bags you need to help keep your community clean and tidy. By carrying out a community litter pick you will be really helping your community, get some gentle exercise in and, if you get some friends or family together, have a great social outing - it really is win win!
All you need to do is fill in the form below to book your slot to collect the equipment, sign our terms and conditions and head out on your litter pick.
Collection times: Monday to Thursday, 10am to 12.30pm or 1pm to 3pm. Equipment to be returned in the same time slot on the same day. The latest return time is 4pm.
By borrowing equipment or participating in litter picking from the CKH Westwood Hub, you agree to the following:
- Participation is entirely voluntary and undertaken at your own risk
- Peterborough Litter Wombles (PLW) and CKH accept no liability for:
- Personal injury to volunteers or members of the public
- Illness
- Loss or damage to personal property
CKH and PLW are not responsible for:
- Hazards encountered during litter picking
- Actions taken outside of these guidelines
You agree to:
- Take reasonable care for your own safety and others
- Follow all guidance provided
- Only undertake activities within your capabilities
- Always supervise any children or pets under your care
- Not trespass on private property
- Not disturb wildlife
- Always follow local laws and council guidance
For your safety, we recommend you wear:
- Protective gloves (like gardening gloves), disposable gloves will be provided
- Sturdy, closed-toe footwear (no sandals or flip-flops)
- Clothing that covers arms and legs, especially if entering undergrowth
General safety:
- Plan your route in advance
- Only litter pick in familiar areas where you feel safe and confident
- Avoid working near major roads, water, or hazardous environments
- Stay out of private property
- Avoid any rough sleeping sites
For safety reasons, do not handle:
- Sharp objects (e.g. broken glass, metal, needles) which could tear the bags
- Batteries or vapes
- Needles or syringes
If you find any of the above leave them in place. Report any needles or syringes to Peterborough City Council through the Fix My Street app or their website.
- Fill each bag as full and as safely as possible and tie them securely
- Leave bags at designated collection points (CKH will advise)
- CKH will make arrangements for collection
Recycling is very important, even with dropped litter. Please collect clean cans and plastic bottles into the blue bags which will go for recycling. If you are unsure if something can be recycled, please put it in a black sack to avoid contaminating the recycling.
If you spot any flytipping or other issues these can be reported to Peterborough City Council using the Fix My Street app or their website.
If you know the flytipping or damage is on or to CKH land/property, please let the team at the Hub know and they will report it or call us on 01733 385000.
Return the litter grabbers and sign the book to say you have returned them and report any damage or any grabbers not working properly.
Wash your hands!
It would be great if you can take a photo and post on Facebook, tagging in both Peterborough Litter Wombles and Cross Keys Homes, or post directly on their Facebook page.
