Value for money

From building new homes to taking care of our existing ones, we always aim to make the most of every pound we spend so we can keep making a difference to as many people as possible. Each year, we want to spend a little less on delivering our services than we earn so that we have money to fund improvements, new services and new homes the following year. In 2019/20, our surplus was £23m which we’ll be using to invest in services and initiatives that support you, no matter where you live.

In 2019/20 we:

  • Built 372 new homes
  • Re-let 626 general needs and retirement housing homes
  • Sold 141 shared ownership homes
  • Spent £9.1m on routine repairs
  • Invested £9.2m in planned maintenance
  • Secured £172k funding to provide support and training

Improving how we let homes

We know there are thousands of people waiting to move into an affordable home in Peterborough so when a home becomes available it’s really important we can help someone new to move in as quickly as possible. To help, from June 2020 we’ve taken a new approach to how we let homes in Peterborough, letting 25% of our homes ourselves and asking Peterborough City Council to give us nominations within just two days for the other 75%. Next year, we hope to be one of the top performing housing associations for re-let times.

How will we keep offering value for money?

Coronavirus will have an impact on how we deliver some of our services into the future. We’re already talking about what we need to stop, start or do differently to make sure our services still work for you. In some cases, we may need to spend money investing in new systems or equipment so we can deliver high-quality services. We also have the chance to make savings by making the most of the resources we already have – our digital services are a great example of how we can offer you the same great service but in a slightly different way.

Value for money is about more than how much it costs us to deliver a service, it’s also about quality. So at every turn, we’ll be listening to the feedback you give us about our services – because if you’re happy, we’re happy.
